南京农业大学是一所直属教育部领导的,以农业和生命科学为优势和特色,农学、理学、经济学、管理学、工学、文学、法学多学科协调发展的全国重点大学,是国家“211工程”重点建设的大学之一。现任党委书记管恒禄教授,校长郑小波教授。
南京农业大学起源于1902年三江师范学堂农业博物科,前身是私立金陵大学农学院和国立中央大学农学院。1952年院系调整时,上述两院以及浙江大学农学院部分系科合并,成立南京农学院。1963年被确定为全国两所重点农业高校之一。1972年搬迁至扬州,与当时的苏北农学院合并成立江苏农学院,1979年搬回南京,恢复为南京农学院。1984年经教育部批准更名为南京农业大学。1999年4月首批通过全国高校本科教学工作优秀评价。2000年6月建立研究生院。2007年4月再次以优秀成绩通过教育部本科教学工作水平评估;学校还设有“国家大学生文化素质教育基地”、“国家理科基础科学研究与教学人才培养基地”和“国家生命科学与技术人才培养基地”。
——人才培养 目前,全校各类在校生共有30000余人,其中全日制本科生16000余人,研究生7000人。在长期的办学历程中,学校先后培养和造就了48位两院院士。近年来,有6篇博士学位论文被评为全国百篇优秀博士论文。
——教学机构 全校现有生命科学学院、农学院、植物保护学院、资源与环境科学学院、园艺学院、动物科学技术学院(含渔业学院)、经济管理学院、动物医学院、食品科学技术学院、信息科学技术学院、公共管理学院(含土地管理学院)、外国语学院、人文社会科学学院、理学院、工学院(含乡镇企业学院)、国际教育学院等16个学院和体育工作部。另设有金陵研究院、成人教育学院、中华农业文明研究院、中央农业干部教育培训中心南农大分院等机构。
