《中国文物地图集·江苏分册》（以下简称《江苏分册》）一书，是由江苏省文化厅、江苏省文物局组织领导、负责编纂的大型文物地图工具书，它的编纂启动于1987年，前后历经二十一个春秋，八易其稿，终于在2008年由中国地图出版社出版。它的面世，标志着国家文物局1986年启动的编制与出版《中国文物地图集》系统工程取得了又一个非常重要的进展；标志着文物大省江苏省的考古文物成就得到了一次全面的回顾与总结。其价值是显而易见的，其意义是毋庸置疑的。

　　《江苏分册》集江苏省不可移动文物之大成，全书分为上下两册，共千余页，上册以“概述”3万字起篇，对江苏全景不可移动文物的内容、特点与价值作出提纲挈领的说明，成为全书之纲。下册则对江苏全境的古遗址、古墓群、古建筑、石窟寺及古碑刻、近现代重要史迹及代表性建筑等七大类不可移动文物作出全面而概括的介绍，共计有万余条条目，逾150万字。同时还编制了“索引”，以便于读者查阅。

　　检阅全书，给我们留下深刻印象的是，本书在编纂内容与方法上均具有显著的特色和重大的创新，这突出表现为：首先是文物资料蒐集上的“全”，既汇集了江苏历次文物普查的成果，也包涵了江苏文物考古工作者调查发掘的研究成果，对于未发表的资料也尽可能加以收集。其次是文物单位介绍上的“准”，即如编纂者所说明的，所有条目的撰写与表述均经过反复核查，并经过各市县文管部门签字盖章予以认可后才收录于书中。如关于苏州城址的介绍，本书以越城遗址和苏州故城分别撰写，完整正确地体现了考古学成果和苏州建城原貌。其三是文物内容拓展上的“新”，即积极地把新发现的材料收录到本书之中，许多文物单位，如西汉时期的仪征王庄汉墓、张庄汉墓中所发现的石虎，乃是由本书首次发表的，本身就具有比较重要的研究价值。其四是编纂学术性上的“专”，即图集的编纂体现厚重精深的学术性，本书就是专门进行科学研究的结晶，编纂者在注重学术性上下足功夫，如增加老照片、绘制器物分期图、遗址坡面图、石窟造像速写图，避免了条目撰写上单纯堆砌资料的不足。
