学院创立于1978年， 2000年与创立于1956年的重庆市城市建设工程学校（国家级重点中专）合并，2007年12月经重庆市人民政府批准升格为重庆建筑工程职业学院，2008年4月教育部已备案。整个学院已历经几十年的职业教育历程，为社会输送各类建筑专业人才五万余人，学生平均就业率在98%以上。

    学院位于重庆市高新技术开发区内，交通便利，环境优美，教学设施齐全。学院现占地83.7亩，目前已在经开区金渝大道新征地201亩（此为一期征地，二期尚有100亩）。新校区的建设正按照基本建设程序有序开展，预计2009年秋季首批学生入住。

    学院拥有一支职称结构合理、责任心强的高素质教师队伍和管理队伍。现有教职工170余人，专任教师 120余人，副高以上职称40余人， “双师型”教师近60余人。

    学院开设有建筑工程技术、建筑工程造价、道路桥梁工程技术、建筑装饰工程技术、建筑电气工程技术、房地产经营与评估、园林工程技术七个高职高专专业；成人教育开设有建筑工程技术、建筑工程造价、道路桥梁工程技术、城市轨道交通车辆、城市轨道交通运营管理等专业。我院正在同重庆大学和重庆交通大学联络计划联合举办专升本教育。学院图书馆藏书8.3万余册。

    学院面向全国招收普通高中毕业生和中职毕业生，学制3年，实行“双证制”教育，培养“职业素质优良，专业技术适用，技能能力突出”的复合型和贯通型人才，同时积极开展各种岗位培训、资格培训、继续教育等各种非学历教育。

    目前，学院正积极开展新校区有关建设工作，努力提高学院办学实力、教学质量和管理水平等，秉着“厚德、笃学、求实、创新”的校训，坚持以市场为导向，以行业为依托，以特色为抓手，以能力为本位，走产学相结合之路，为重庆市乃至全国建设行业培养更多的复合型高技能人才而努力。
