南京建筑工程学院是国家建设部直属的一所以土木建筑工程为主的多科性高等院校，座落在古都南京市中心。

　　学院的前身同济医工学堂机师科始建于1915年，1933年改建为同济高工。在漫长的办学岁月中，几度易名，几番迁址。1951年迁南京现址。1980年5月，经国务院批准正式定名为南京建筑工程学院。

　　学院现设7个系：建筑系、建工系、勘测系、机电系、经管系、城建系、社科系；开设16个专业。学院设置的成人教育学院，开设5个专业。学院设有基础部、体育部、电教中心、计算中心等教学机构。目前，在校全日制学生2600人，夜大、函授生1200人。专任教师380多名。其中，教授、副教授等120余名。

　　学院图书馆藏书30万册，中外文期刊2000种。《南京建筑工程学院学报》向国内外公开发行。此外还定期出版《建筑高教探索》、《南京建工学院报》等刊物。

　　学院拥有各类综合实验室27个，设有建筑工程、工程勘测等7个研究所。学院还设有建筑设计研究院等教学科研辅助机构和实习工厂、印刷厂等教学、生产基础设施。

　　学院重视国际学术交流，每年都聘请外国专家来院执教和工作，邀请外国学者讲学。学院还与联邦德国慕尼黑理工学院、美国普拉特大学建立了校际合作交流关系。学院不断派遣中青年教师出国留学或进修，派出教师参加国际学术会议。学院历来重视基础理论、基础知识教育和基本技能的训练，注重生产实习、毕业实习和毕业设计环节，努力培养既懂理论又注重实践的专业人才，以适应建设业的需要。
