巴西陆军日前宣布已经完成对亚马孙雨林西北地区的地理测绘工作，有关图片和资料将移交给矿产和能源部下属的研究机构以便进一步研究。

　　据巴西《圣保罗报》３日报道，目前最新的巴西亚马孙地区地图是于２０世纪９０年代绘制的，其中被命名为“狗头”的西北地区一直是现场勘探测绘领域的空白区。巴西陆军从２００８年开始，通过多种手段对这一地区进行了首次大规模勘探，发现由于交通不便，这片林区得到了非常好的保护，植被覆盖率甚至要超过３０年前。

　　从２０１０年开始，巴西矿产和能源部下属的研究机构将对巴西陆军在勘探中获得的图片和资料进行研究，内容包括当地主要林木品种、土壤结构以及是否具有商业开发价值等。相关研究预计将持续５年，需要经费达１．５亿雷亚尔（１美元约合１．８３雷亚尔）。

　　素有“地球之肺”之称的亚马孙雨林面积达７５０万平方公里，占世界森林面积的三分之一，其中大部分位于巴西境内。

Known as "Earth's lungs" of the Amazon rain forest area of 7,500,000 square kilometers, accounting for one third of the world's forest area, most of which is located in Brazil.
