2009年，湖北省测绘局不断加大基础测绘投入，测绘服务总值首次过亿，较2008年同比增长24.9%。

　　该局积极向省政府争取，不断加大基础测绘的投入，据不完全统计，2009年省级基础测绘投入7100多万，市县基础测绘投入6200万，共计约1.3亿元。全局全年完成测绘服务总值超过亿元，较2008年同比增长24.9%。积极向国家测绘局争取投资，完成了襄樊近4万平方公里的航摄任务。开展了荆州、武汉、恩施等测区1∶1万数字线划图覆盖、更新；组织实施三峡库区综合信息空间集成平台建设项目，开展了三峡库区湖北段地质灾害、城乡规划、旅游等方面应用示范建设；启动了全省连续运行卫星定位服务系统建设；测绘技术装备逐步完善，测绘技术创新进一步加强；开展了IKNOS卫星立体像对用于1∶1万地形图测绘研究、地理信息公共服务平台关键技术研究等科技研发项目，为地形图快速更新、地理信息分发服务网络化，实现测绘信息化发展进行技术储备。
