Civil Engineering Institute was founded in 1958, its predecessor is the Shandong Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering Construction Engineering. 土木工程学院始建于1958年，其前身是山东建筑工程学院建筑工程系。1998年，国家教委进行本科专业调整，原建筑工程和交通土建工程等专业合并为土木工程专业，建筑工程系相应更名为土木工程系，2002年4月成立土木工程学院。现有土木工程、地理信息系统、交通工程、测绘工程四个本科专业。2003年11月土木工程专业顺利通过国家专业教育评估委员会的评估，使我校成为目前山东省唯一一个通过该专业评估的高校，进入当前全国340所具有土木工程专业的正规本科院校中的32强，标志着我院土木工程专业的办学水平进入全国先进行列。1995年学院所属“结构工程实验室”被列为山东省省级重点实验室；1998年“结构工程”、“工程力学”学科获得硕士学位授予权；2005年获得土木工程一级学科硕士点、道路与铁道工程二级学科硕士点。“结构工程学科”为山东省“十五”强化建设重点学科，“十一五”重点学科；“结构工程实验室”为山东省“十五”重点实验室，“十一五”强化建设重点实验室。2006年土木工程专业被评为山东省特色专业。

学院设有“钢筋混凝土、钢结构、结构力学、地基与基础、道路与桥梁、土木工程材料、土木工程施工、测绘工程及GIS”八个教研室；设有“结构工程、土木工程材料、土力学、道路、工程测量、地理信息系统、计算机应用与信息中心”七个实验室；设有“工程结构研究所、工程鉴定加固研究所、钢结构技术研究所、预应力技术开发中心、岩土工程研究所、道路工程研究所、工程结构抗震与防灾研究所、遥感与地理信息系统中心”八个科研机构和开发实体,拥有“山东省土木结构诊断改造与抗灾工程技术研究中心”和“山东省绿色钢结构工程技术研究中心”两个省级工程技术研究中心。

目前，土木工程学院在校本科生2600余人，研究生96人。学院现有教职工148人，其中教授23人，副教授49人，讲师63人；具有博士学位的30人，在读博士15人；兼职博士生导师3人，硕士生导师24人；山东省有突出贡献的中青年专家3人，省级学科带头人1人，校级专业技术拔尖人才4人，省级教学名师1人，校级教学名师2人。近五年共发表论文500余篇，被三大检索收录60余篇，参编著书30余部，省部级以上科研项目28项，科研成果鉴定26项，获得国家级科技进步二等奖1项，教育部科技进步一等奖1项，二等奖1项，省级二等奖7项，三等奖5项，省级教学成果一等奖1项，二等奖1项，三等奖2项，“混凝土结构设计原理”被评为省级精品课程。
