华南理工大学建筑学院历史悠久，前身为创建于1932年的襄勤大学以及1938年并入的国立中山大学工学院。1952年组建华南工学院建筑系。1979年成立综合甲级建筑设计研究院。1997年建筑学院成立，由建筑学系，土木工程系和建筑设计研究院组成。2008年1月学校学科重新调整，土木工程系迁出，建筑学院由亚热带建筑科学国家重点实验室、建筑系、城市规划系、建筑设计研究院和《南方建筑》编辑部组成。
　　学院有1个国家培育的二级重点学科（建筑设计及其理论）和1个广东省一级重点学科（建筑学），1个一级学科博士点，1个一级学科博士后流动站、5个硕士点，3个本科专业。目前在读的本科生784人、研究生682人。已为国家和地区培养本科生和研究生8000多人，先后孕育了莫伯治、佘峻南、容柏生、张佑启、何镜堂、吴硕贤等六位院士，袁培煌、黎陀芬等九位国家工程勘察设计大师。
　　学院现有一支实力强大的教学、科研和工程设计咨询队伍，已形成以何镜堂院士、吴硕贤院士等为学术带头人，老中青结合，综合素质高，教学科研能力强的学科人才体系。学院现有教职工275人，其中教授24人，副教授22人，高级工程师47人，研究生导师43人，其中博士生导师14人，45岁以下的中青年教师占88%。教师中有中国工程院院士1人，中国科学院院士1人，国务院学位委员会建筑学学科评议组召集人1人，国家工程设计大师1人，全国性各级教学指导委员会委员3人，建筑学专业教育评估委员会委员1人；现有列入“千百十”人才工程国家级培养教师1人，省级培养教师1人，校级培养教师4人，国家、省部级先进教师5人，厅局级及校级先进教师12人。
　　近年来，建筑学院学科建设和科学研究取得令人瞩目的成绩，学科优势和地位得到加强和提高。自上世纪九十年代，先后被列入“211工程”、“985一期、二期”建设。2005年获准建设“亚热带建筑”教育部重点实验室。2007年，亚热带建筑科学国家重点实验室获准建设，成为全国高校唯一的建筑学国家重点实验室。
    “十五”以来，学院的科研工作成绩骄人，新增科研项目有665项，总合同经费约为2.45亿元，实到科研经费约1.7亿元。其中，承担国家自然科学基金重点项目1项、国家自然科学基金国际（地区）重大合作研究项目1项、国家自然科学基金面上项目12项、国家“十一五”科技支撑计划项目子项目4项等。共在国内外重要的学术刊物及会议论文集发表论文约1000篇，出版专著、教材60余部。
　　“十五”以来，学院获得省部级科学技术奖9项，一批建筑设计精品获联合国或国家级设计奖，其中国家优秀设计金奖3项，联合国教科文组织亚太地区文化遗产保护奖卓越奖和荣誉奖各1项，省部级以上优秀设计奖80余项。
　　学院在各类建筑设计竞赛中多次中标、获奖，尤其在博览建筑、体育建筑、教育建筑与校园规划、高层建筑等方面成绩喜人，如新近在国际大型设计竞争中夺魁的世博会中国馆、新近建成的南京侵华日军大屠杀遇难同胞纪念馆、2008年北京奥运会羽毛球及艺术体操比赛馆、北京奥运会摔跤馆等，在国内外产生深远的影响。
        学院己在亚热带建筑设计、亚热带城市规划设计、岭南风景园林、建筑与文化研究古建筑文物保护修复、岭南民居研究、亚热带建筑技术科学等方面办出了特色，形成了优势。我们将继续努力，办成国内一流水平，为国家尤其是华南地区的建筑产业作出更大的贡献。
 

South China University of Technology School of Architecture has a long history, the former was founded in 1932, the University of Xiang Qin and into 1938, National Sun Yat-Sen University Institute of Technology. South China Institute of Technology in 1952 to form the Department of Architecture. Class of 1979 set up a comprehensive Architectural Design & Research Institute. School of Architecture in 1997 established the Department of Architecture, Department of Civil Engineering, Architectural Design & Research Institute and the composition. Schools in January 2008 subject to re-adjust, to move out of the Civil Engineering Department, School of Architecture building by the sub-tropical State Key Laboratory of Science, Department of Architecture, Town Planning Department, Architectural Design & Research Institute and the "Southern Architecture" the composition of the editorial department.
College has cultivated a national focus on two disciplines (architectural design and theory) and a level key disciplines in Guangdong Province (Architecture), an interdisciplinary doctoral level, a level-disciplinary post-doctoral mobile stations, 5 a master's degree, the three undergraduate professional. Undergraduate students currently enrolled in 784, and 682 graduate students. College of the existing strong team of teaching and research and engineering design consulting team has been formed to Academician He Jingtang, WU Shuo-yin, academic leaders, such as academicians,combining comprehensive high-quality teaching and research capacity of academic personnel system. College of the existing 275 staff, of whom 24 were professors, 22 associate professor, senior engineer 47 people, 43 mentors graduate students, of whom 14 were doctoral tutor, 45 years of age accounted for 88% of middle-aged and young teachers. In recent years, the School of Architecture building and scientific research disciplines made remarkable achievements, strengths and disciplines to strengthen and improve the position. College for all types of building design competition in a number of times, successful, award-winning, particularly in the Expo building, sports, construction, education, construction and campus planning, high-rise buildings and so gratifying results, such as the recent large-scale design in the international competition, China won the first prize of the World Expo Hall, newly built in Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders Victims Memorial, the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games badminton and rhythmic gymnastics competitions Museum, the Beijing Olympic Games Wrestling Museum and so on, have a profound impact both at home and abroad.
         Institute of Architectural Design has been in the sub-tropical, subtropical urban planning and design, Lingnan Landscape Architecture, Architecture and cultural heritage research to repair old buildings, Lingnan residential research, science and subtropical areas such as construction techniques to do a feature of the formation of the edge. We will continue our efforts into the domestic first-class level, for countries, especially the construction industry in southern China to make greater contributions.
