西安建筑科技大学是1956年全国第三次院系调整时，由原东北工学院、西北工学院、青岛工学院和苏南工业专科学校的土木、建筑类系（科）整建制合并而成，时名西安建筑工程学院。 1959年和1963年，曾先后易名为西安冶金学院、西安冶金建筑学院。 1994年3月经原国家教委批准更名为西安建筑科技大学。 　　学校积淀了我国高等教育史上最早的一批土木、建筑类系科，具有110多年的办学历史和52年的并校史，经过半个世纪尤其是近年来的发展建设，学校目前已日益发展壮大成为一所以土木建筑及其相关学科为特色，以工程学科为主

体，理工科相互支撑，兼有文学、法学、经济、管理、艺术、教育等学科的多科性大学，是国内外著名的土建类院校之一。 　　 西安建筑科技大学办学历史源远流长，具有110余年的办学史，其前身最早可追溯到始建于1895年的北洋大学，积淀了我国近代高等教育史上最早的一批土木、建筑、市政类学科精华。1956年在全国第三次院系调整时，由创办于1923

年、1928年的东北大学土木系和建筑系（史称我国高等教育史上的第一个本科建筑学系），并校于 1938年的西北工学院土木系（西北工学院是抗战初期，由迁至陕西的北洋。 　　学校占地约310万平方米，建筑面积90余万平方米。现有教职工2300余名，具有高级职称的教师、工程技术人员及研究人员700余名，其中，中国工程院院士2名。在校本、专科生26000余名，博士、硕士研究生3600余名。学校设有15个院（系），近50个本科专业，面向全国第一批招生。除建筑学、城市规划、景观学三个专业为五年制外，其余专业均为四年制。 　　 学校现有国家级重点学科3个；省部级重点学科26个；国家级科技成果研究推广中心1个；省部级工程研究和科技成果推广中心3个；省部级重点实验室5个。作为国务院首批批准授予博士、硕士和学士学位的单位，现有4个国家一级学科博士点，25个学科具有博士学位授予权，66个学科、专业具有硕士学位授予权， 4个博士后流动站及11个陕西省“名牌专业”。 　　 学校现有97个教研室、43个实验室、42个研究所（站）。拥有国家科技部和陕西省共建的“西部建筑科技国家重点实验室”。校图书馆藏书200余万册，中外文期刊4500 余种。学校现已建成了居国内先进水平的中国西部开发远程学习网——陕西远程学习中心，实现了与国际网络的资源共享。 　　 学校学科门类齐全，科研实力雄厚，教学经验丰富，先后为国家培养了14 万余名各级各类优秀人才，贡献了一大批在海内外极具影响的科技成果。先后参加了人民大会堂、武汉长江大桥、北京地铁通风工程、黄帝陵、汉阳陵、华山风景区规划等一系列国家重大工程规划设计任务，为华夏文明的传承、祖国经济建设的人才培养、科技创新做出了应有的贡献。特别是在联合国教科文组织举行的每三年一次的国际大学生建筑设计竞赛中，我校先后参加7届大赛，6届榜上有名，共获14项大奖，其中在第十四届中获得最高奖——联合国教科文组织奖，是国内外大学在此项赛事中获奖最多的高校。 1999年我校成功组织了第20届国际建筑师大会（UIA）大学生建筑设计竞赛，这在亚洲地区属首次承办，开创了国际上由一所高校全面负责的先河。 2000年，在由英国皇家学会主办，中国和英联邦国家共认的注册结构工程师考试中，全国通过考试的只有12人，我校毕业生就占了三分之一，这些成绩极大地提高了学校的办学地位和对外知名度。   　　 多年来 学校毕业生初次就业率均保持在全国高校前列，曾于 2000 年被教育部评为“全国普通高等学校就业工作先进单位”。 2002年我校毕业生初次就业率高达98.3%，位居陕西省普通高等学校（工科）第一名，近几年毕业生初次就业率始终保持在95% 以上。 2007年学校招生一志愿录取率在全国21个省份达到100% 。 　　 学校高度重视国际学术交流与对外联系，先后与40多个国家和地区的高校建立有长期的合作关系，并与100余个省市或国有大型企事业单位签署了全面合作协议。目前学校设有数十种各类奖（助）学金。 　　 目前，学校已初步形成校本部、东校区和规划中的南校区三足鼎立、良性互动的战略布局， 30000余名师生员工正朝着国际知名国内高水平大学的宏伟目标奋勇前进！
