建社55年来，中国地图出版社（包括合并前的测绘出版社）一直承担着全国测绘类、地理信息类专业教材、专著、科普图书及期刊的编制出版任务，现已累计出版3000多种测绘专业图书和1000余期期刊，其中有100多部专著、教材获国家级和省部级奖励，在推动测绘科技进步、促进科技成果转化、支持学科教材建设、普及测绘科学知识、扩大测绘影响等方面发挥了重要作用，赢得了良好的社会声誉。
    多年来，中图社坚持“立足本专业，面向大科技”，把出版测绘图书作为主体业务之一，凡是测绘事业需要的图书总是千方百计优先安排出版。改革开放以来，一大批高品位、高水平、高质量的图书相继与读者见面，其中《摄影测量原理》及《摄影测量原理续编》（王之卓）、《概率统计原理和在测量中的应用》（李庆海等）、《卫星多普勒定位》（陈俊勇）、《解析摄影测量原理》（钱曾波）、《地图制图工作参考手册》（喻沧等）、《误差处理和可靠性理论》（李德仁）、《数学制图原理》（吴忠性等）、《遥感地学分析》（陈述彭等）、《中国地名拼写法研究》（曾世英）、《GPS卫星测量原理与应用》（周忠谟等）、《人造地球卫星与地球重力场》（陆仲连）、《数学规划在测绘学中的应用》（郑肇葆）、《Voronoi动态空间数据模型》（陈军）、《中国测绘史》等90多种图书在国家级和部级优秀图书评选活动中获奖。在第一、第二届全国优秀测绘图书评选和第一、第二、第三届全国优秀测绘教材评选活动中，中图社获奖的图书占了绝大部分。在首届全国优秀地理图书评选活动中，中图社的获奖数量在全国众多出版社中仅次于科学出版社和商务印书馆，位居第三位。
    中图社出版的期刊，以国家一级学术性刊物《测绘学报》、技术性刊物《测绘通报》和面向大众的科普刊物《地图》为主。作为我国最早创办的77种学术期刊之一，《测绘学报》一直代表测绘学科的最高水平，是美国《工程索引》（EI）核心期刊、全国中文核心期刊、中国学术期刊综合评价数据库核心统计源期刊、美国CSA和俄罗斯AJ收录期刊。创刊52年来，《测绘学报》致力于探究测绘科学新理论，交流新技术、新方法，发表重要学术论文，评述国内外重要论著，成为测绘科技人员共有的学术交流园地，奠定了其在国内测绘学术期刊中的“领头羊”地位。《测绘通报》主要是交流测绘生产技能和基层业务工作经验，讨论作业中的业务技术问题，推广技术革新成果，普及测绘科技基础理论并传播现代测绘科技知识。此刊是测绘界印量最大、深受欢迎的刊物，每期印数达1万多份。《地图》杂志创刊于1986年，从2002年起从技术性科技期刊改为大众科普刊物。改版后的《地图》杂志以全新的面貌和内容，在传播地图科学，普及地图知识，讲述地图故事，探讨地图文化方面发挥了重要作用，逐渐成为测绘走进千家万户的载体和桥梁。
    多年来，《测绘学报》《测绘通报》一直是中文核心期刊、科技核心期刊。《测绘学报》入选中国百种杰出期刊，曾获第三届中国科协优秀科技期刊三等奖，被中国科协列为精品科技期刊工程首批资助对象，发表的论文被国内外多种数据库、检索系统收录。《测绘通报》入选国家百种重点期刊。
