测量学是一门古老的地球科学,至今已有侧多年的发展历史,在人类历史的发展中起着非常重要的作用。
   测量学丛研究地球的形状和大小,并确定地球表面各种物体的几何形状及其空间位置的科学。测量学的研究对象是地球的自然表面。
   测量学在应用中的卞要技术表现是测量与绘图,故测量学又有“测绘学”之称。现代科技条件下的测绘学,是对地球整体及其表向—和外层空间的物体与地理分布有关信息的采集,并赋予处理、管理、更新等过程的科学。测绘学获得的数据或图像成为可以储备、传播、应用的地球空间信息,地球空间信息是测绘学的成果。现代测绘科学计算机信息科学的有机整合,使地球空间信息科学迅速发展。
   二、测量学的分类
   随着生产的发展和科学技术的进步,测量学包含的内容越来越丰富,因而测量学在自身的发展中形成了特色各异的分支学科。根据研究的对象、范围和采用技术于段的不同,测量学分为以下几个主要分支学科。  
   1.大地测量学
   是研究和确定地球的形状、大小、重力场和地球表面点的几何位置及其变化的理论和技术的科学。大地测量学是测绘学各分支学科的理论基础,其基本任务是建立地面控制网、重力网,精确测定控制点的空间三维坐标,为地形测图提供基本控制,为各类工程施工测量提供依

据。现代大地测量学又可分为:几何大地测量学、物理大地测量学和空间大地测量学。由于大地测量是以地球表面广大地区为测量对象,因此必须考虑地球曲率的影响。
   2.普通测量学
   是研究测量的基本原理、地球表面局部地区大比例尺地形图测绘理论和基本方法,属测量学的基础部分。它是以地球表面小区域为研究对象,可视小区域球面为平面而不必顾及地球曲率的影响,从而使测量理论和方法都得到简化。若是研究地球表面小区域地形图测绘的理论和方法,就称为地形测量学。把地球表面的形态,采用正射投影的理论,并用规定的符号,按一定比例,相似地缩绘到平面图上,这种图称为地形图。地形图的测绘和应用是普通测量学的核心内容之一。地形图在国民经济和国防建设中有着广泛的用途。
   3.摄影测量学
   是研究利用摄影或遥感技术获取地表面貌的影像并进行分析处理,以绘制地形图或获得数字化信息的理论和方法的科学。根据获得影像方法的不同,摄影测量学又可分为水下摄影测量、地面摄影测量、航空摄影测量和遥感测量。其中航空摄影测量是测绘中、小比例尺国家基本地形图的主要方法,现已应用到大比例尺地形图的测绘巾;而近景摄影测量已经在古建筑测绘、建(构)筑物的变形观测、动态目标测量等许多方面得到了广泛的应用。摄影测量发展很快,特别是与现代遥感技术相配合,使摄影测量的服务领域大为拓宽,除测绘地形图外,还用于矿产资源勘察、地球板块运动研究、环境污染监测、农业估产和农林灾害预防等。因此,摄影测量与遥感已成为非常活跃、富有生命力的一个独立学科。
   4.工程测量学
   是研究工程建设在勘察设计、施工放样和运营管理等各阶段所进行的测量工作的理论和方法的科学。它主要包括以工程建筑为对象的上程测量和以机器、设备为对象的工业测量两大部分。在技术方法上可分为普通工程测量和精密工程测量,是测绘学在国民经济建没和国防建设中的直接应用。工程测量的服务领域非常广阔,有土木工程测量、水利工程测量、矿山测量、军事上程测量、三维工业测量以及精密工程测量等。
   5.地图制图学
   是研究利用测量资料如何进行投影、编绘成地图,以及地图制作的理论、工艺、技术和应用等方面的科学。其研究内容主要包括地图编制、地图投影、地图整饰、地图印刷等。地图是测绘工作的重要产品形式。它的功能是传递地球表面的各种信息。它与文字描述的区别在于它对信息的分布能予以精确直观的定位。学科发展促使地图产品从模拟地图向数字地图转化。计算机制图技术和地图数据库的发展,促使地理信息系统产生,数字地图的发展,它的广泛应用为地图学的发展和应用展现出广阔的前景。现代地图制图学正朝着制图自动化、电子地图制作及地理信息系统方向发展。
   本书主要属于《普通测量学》的范畴,并包含《工程测量学》的基本内容。
